In this role, the Manager, Medical Affairs Data Analytics and Insights will lead development and refinement of analytics frameworks for assigned Medical Affairs priorities, manage and continuously improve insight generation processes, and partner across Medical Affairs, Field Medical, Medical Communications, Medical Information, Medical Education, HEOR, Commercial, Finance, IT, and Compliance to translate complex data into clear recommendations that support strategic and operational decision-making.
Position Summary:
The Manager, Medical Affairs Data Analytics & Insights is responsible for managing the collection, integration, analysis, visualization, and communication of Medical Affairs data and insights for assigned workstreams. This position will develop and maintain consistent approaches for tracking key performance indicators, monitoring Medical Affairs activities, identifying trends and gaps and converting data into meaningful insights that support medical strategy, tactical planning, resource allocation, congress planning, scientific communications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Performance Objectives:
- Manage the development, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of Medical Affairs dashboards, reports, trackers, and analytics tools for assigned areas, providing leadership visibility into activities, milestones, performance indicators, budget alignment, and operational priorities.
- Partner with Medical Affairs functional leaders to define, standardize, and monitor KPIs and metrics across key activities such as scientific communications, publications, congress planning, medical education, medical information, field medical insights, advisory boards, and business operations.
- Coordinate the collection, organization, and synthesis of insights from internal and external sources, including field medical feedback, congress intelligence, scientific engagement outputs, medical information trends, publication metrics, and cross-functional stakeholder input.
- Translate data and qualitative insights into clear summaries, trends, implications, and recommended actions that inform Medical Affairs leadership decisions and cross-functional planning.
- Support the establishment and maintenance of Medical Affairs insights processes, templates, taxonomies governance approaches, and reporting cadence to enable consistent capture, interpretation, and application of insights.
- Partner with IT, data owners, vendors, and internal stakeholders to improve data quality, reporting automation, system usability, and integration across Medical Affairs platforms and tools.
- Conduct retrospective analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of Medical Affairs tactics, identify lessons learned, and recommend improvements for future planning cycles.
- Provide timely operational analysis and business insights that support budget tracking, resource planning, vendor management, and leadership decision-making across Medical Affairs.
- Ensure all analytics and insights activities are conducted in accordance with applicable internal policies, privacy requirements, regulatory expectations, and compliance standards.
- Prepare executive-ready reports, presentations, and summaries that communicate findings in a concise, accurate, and visually clear manner for senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Evaluate and apply AI-enabled tools, automation, and advanced analytics where appropriate to improve insight generation, reporting efficiency, data visualization, and decision support, while ensuring appropriate human oversight, data integrity, privacy, and compliance.
Education/Certification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required in life sciences, pharmacy, public health, health economics, business analytics, data science, statistics, informatics, or a related field.
- Advanced degree preferred, such as PharmD, PhD, MPH, MBA, MS in analytics/data science, or related discipline.
- Relevant certifications are a plus, such as project management, Lean/Six Sigma, data visualization, analytics, or business intelligence platform certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong Medical Affairs business acumen and strategic/operational thinking, including understanding of medical strategy, field medical engagement, medical communications, publications, medical information, medical education, congress planning, insights generation, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced analytical rigor, data-driven decision-making, problem-solving, and insight-generation skills, with the ability to interpret complex quantitative and qualitative data, identify meaningful trends, and translate findings into practical recommendations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint; experience with data visualization or business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms preferred.
- Ability to appropriately leverage AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to enhance analytics, workflow efficiency, insight development, and executive-ready communications, with sound judgment regarding accuracy, confidentiality, compliance, and responsible use.
- Familiarity with Medical Affairs systems, CRM platforms, Veeva, SharePoint, project management tools, publication management systems, or other relevant enterprise platforms preferred.
- Strong project management, prioritization, and adaptability, including the ability to manage multiple timelines, stakeholders, deliverables, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, executive communication, and data storytelling skills, including the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to non-technical, senior, and cross-functional audiences.
- High attention to detail, quality orientation, commitment to data integrity, and continuous improvement mindset to support accurate reporting, dashboards, and leadership materials.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently while building effective relationships across Medical Affairs and cross-functional teams.
- Strong ethical judgment, compliance awareness, regulatory sensitivity, and ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
