Field Service Engineer based in Columbus, OH area and covering surrounding states

***This position is for Field Service. Visiting various customers each day and carrying tools and test equipment.****
***Within the role of an FSE, daily travel to and from multiple customers sites is required. Complex troubleshooting and repairing systems containing but not limited to, Lasers/optical pathways, fluidic systems, pneumatic systems, electronic systems, and PC’s to resolve issues while onsite is required.****
Responsibilities:
- Install and service instrumentation with minimal supervision according to ISO and GMP standards, while providing thorough follow-up service to ensure customer satisfaction. This includes calling customers after service completion to verify all needs were met and documenting all service activities in compliance with GMP requirements.
- Maintain proper car stock inventory, test equipment, tools, and technical documentation. This responsibility extends to the proper maintenance and utilization of company vehicles according to Corporate fleet policy, ensuring all resources are ready for service calls.
- Display maturity and judgment in time management and expense control, keeping all travel and site visit expenses within established guidelines. This includes accountability for company-issued credit cards, travel advances, and management of spare parts inventory.
- Report quality control and technical problems in detail to the Service Center and System Support Engineering Manager. Effectively interface with other departments and managers to resolve customer issues promptly and thoroughly.
- Serve as a representative of BD by promoting and maintaining excellent customer relations through high standards of personal appearance, ethical behavior, maturity, and good judgment. This includes providing support that consistently meets BD's standards of superior quality service.
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must possess at minimum a High School diploma. This foundational educational qualification ensures basic academic competency necessary for understanding technical documentation, communication protocols, and problem-solving methodologies.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience troubleshooting instruments or components is required. This experience should demonstrate proficiency in diagnostic techniques, repair procedures, and familiarity with technical systems relevant to the position.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License is mandatory, as the position will require travel between client sites, service locations, or field installations to perform necessary technical work.
- Candidates must be willing and able to travel a minimum of 50% of their working time. This substantial travel component indicates the position involves regular on-site service calls, installations, or maintenance across multiple locations.
- The position demands the physical capability to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds. This requirement ensures technicians can safely handle equipment, tools, and components necessary for installation and repair tasks.
Preferred Requirements:
- Candidates should possess an Associates or Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, or related technical/biological discipline. This educational foundation provides the necessary theoretical knowledge to understand complex medical instrumentation systems and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer is highly valued, particularly for those who have worked with medical devices or similar technical equipment. This experience demonstrates familiarity with on-site troubleshooting, repair protocols, and the ability to work independently in various customer environments.
- Experience with flow cytometry technology is considered a significant advantage, as it indicates specialized knowledge in a complex analytical technique used in diagnostics and research. This expertise would minimize training time and allow for more effective troubleshooting of these sophisticated instruments.
- Previous experience in customer-facing roles is essential, as Field Service Engineers must effectively communicate technical information to clients, manage expectations, and represent the company professionally while on-site at customer facilities.
- Demonstrated ability with diagnostic tools (digital volt meters, oscilloscopes), proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel), and familiarity with both Mac and PC operating systems. These skills are crucial for documenting service activities, analyzing instrument performance data, and interfacing with various customer systems.
